Todd Clark - Painting! for Silent Auction
"Long Way Down" by Todd Clark. Wow! This is fantastic, thanks Todd. It is conservatively valued at $500. Visit his website at http://www.toddclarkstudio.com/
Here is a little blurb about Todd from his website:
I've always had a deep connection to the land within which I have lived, whether it be the open plains of Alberta and Manitoba or the vertical, sky-scraping forests of coastal British Columbia. My work calls attention to the beauty of these areas and their habitats.
My interest in art was piqued in childhood by the paintings of revered contemporary artists, such as Gordon Smith, Lawren Harris, Jack Shadbolt , and Takoe Tanabe, to name a few, whose work I grew to appreciate whilst studying at local galleries and museums. Later, as a elementary teacher, I also grew to love the art of children. Lawless and bold, their sense of expression inspired me to explore the canvas with almost reckless abandon.
My approach to painting is related more to abstraction than to conventional landscape. I take cues from nature, but rarely work from it directly. My sources are usually siphoned from memory or imagined. I enjoy challenging the established notions of landscape painting and at times my work is deliberately enigmatic. While painting, I find myself deconstructing and reinventing aspects of nature which are governed by an ecology of form and colour.

Mark in Action!
Mark Giltrow in Action! Not only has he been keeping the wharf together all summer he has also been cleaning up the sea floor underneath the wharf with his home made diving rig. A few of his historic treasures from when the steamships recycling was to toss used bottles and plates overboard.

Work To Date
Well to start the summer me and Bjorn re-harnessed the bridle holding the docks to the wharf:
Then the ramp came unhinged so we rebuilt the base to keep it on track:
then recently the rod holding the last dock was lost to the deep so I put some chains through the brackets to keep our dock attached:
but one of the pieces seems to have disappeared last night so perhaps has joined the pin in Davy Jones Locker.
Will take a dive Thursday to see if they are resting on the bottom.
mark.

Granthams Wharf Association
In order to start the fundraising necessary to purchase materials to build 2 new floats for next summer we are having a Blackfish Pub Fundraiser Party. The tentative date is November 11th between 5:30 pm and 8:30 pm. We are hoping to raise $2000 through a silent auction, and the sale of Beer and Burger tickets for $15, which we get 50% of and the Blackfish gets the rest.
The current 4 floats on the Wharf are falling apart and the replacement costs are estimated to be upwards of $20,000 if we were to buy the floats ready made. The GWA is dedicated to making the wharf a focal point of the community and we figure we can rally around this cause and as a community build our own floats for substantially cheaper.
The Blackfish Pub Fundraiser Party goals are: . 1) to raise $ to rebuild the aging floats 2) to show the community our vision for the Wharf 3) to get support with materials and skills for our building efforts 4) use the wharf as a focus to build on the vibrant, awesome community we live in.
We would like to encourage you to 1) Come to the Fundraiser 2) Buy a bunch of Beer and Burger tickets 3) Support the Silent Auction 4) Check out our Vision for the Wharf 5) Have a great time and support us GWA volunteers as we rebuild the wharf which has anchored our community since 1909!
